Refused to obey a bus driver’s order to give up her seat in the colored section to a white passenger in Montgomery, AL on Dec. 1, 1955.
Her important act of defiance & the Montgomery Bus Boycott became key symbols of the Civil Rights Movement.
Was an active member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
