Attended Stanford on a scholarship & was head of the Black Student Union.
Studied in Kenya & Cuba, worked at a refugee camp in Thailand and was a Peace Corps medical officer for Sierra Leone and Liberia.
Followed her dream of one day going into space by flying on the Endeavour spacecraft mission & became first ever African American woman in space.
Co-authored a series of children’s science-based books.
