Ellen Johnson Sirleaf

Born: Oct. 29, 1938 in Liberia, Africa

She is Africa’s first elected female head of state (President) and became the first ever black female President in the world.

Before finally being elected to office, she had unsuccessfully run for President of Liberia and had been jailed for speaking out against the government.

She has worked to end corruption, improve the economy & reduce national debt.
