Lawyer and highly regarded politician in British Parliament, a close advisor to King Henry VIII.
Required that his daughters get same level of education as his sons, which was unusual at the time.
Refused to betray his faith, even as King Henry threatened to fire and imprison him for not recognizing him as head of the new Church of England.
Patron saint of lawyers and difficult marriages.
Said, “I die the king’s faithful servant, but God’s first.”
