Saint Thomas Becket

Saint Thomas Becket
Artist: Master Francke
Born: 1118 in London
Died: 1170
He was close friends with King Henry II, who gave him the honor of Chancellor of England.
Prior to becoming a priest, he lived quite extravagantly; on one trip, he brought along 200 soldiers, hawks, dogs, and even monkeys!
Was appointed Archbishop of Canterbury at the demand of the King, however he unwaveringly refused to carry out orders that conflicted with the Church.
Facing death as a martyr, he said: “For the name of Jesus and the protection of the Church, I am ready to embrace death.”
