Saint Rose of Lima
Artist: José del Pozo - Museo de Arte de Lima
Born: 1586, Lima, Peru
Died: 1617
Patron saint of people who were made fun of for their faith and people facing family problems.
Got her nickname “Rose” for her stunning beauty; then adopted this name at her Confirmation.
Wanted to become a nun at a very young age, but her parents wanted her to marry and have a family.
Took prayer and fasting very seriously, sleeping only two hours a night so she could have more time to pray, and at one point giving up meat entirely.
Said: “The gift of grace increases as the struggle increases.”
