Saint Roch

Saint Roch
Artist: Bernardo Strozzi - Scuola Grande di San Rocco, Venice
Born: 1348 present day France
Died: 1376, possibly 1379
Miraculously born marked with a red cross on his breast, he was devout from a young age and even fasted alongside his mother.
Gave his possessions away to the poor and set off for Rome where he heroically cared for the sick, performing healing miracles, even helping cure those afflicted with the plague.
Wrongfully accused of being a spy and was put in jail where he died.
Patron saint of dogs, invalids and contagious diseases.
