Became Egyptian monk and priest.
Was a thief, gang member, often angry and violent; he was a sinful person who turned to God and converted to Christianity.
After botched robbery attempt, he hid in a monastery with monks who influenced him into changing his life, eventually becoming a powerful spiritual leader.
Patron saint of non-violence, he fought inner turmoil but outwardly showed calm, peace & God’s grace.
He died a martyr, murdered by bandits while protecting other members of the monastery.
