Saint Lucy
Artist: Francesco del Cossa – National Gallery of Art
Born: 283 AD, Syracuse, Sicily
Died: 304 AD
Born rich and with many suitors, she was faithful to God alone.
Wanted to give all her inheritance to the poor saying “Give now… whatever you intended to give away at your death.”
Was persecuted and attempts were made to defile and kill her, but God helped her fend off those trying to hurt her; eventually died a martyr.
There are a few different stories of the removal of her eyes, however at her burial, miraculously her eyes had been restored to her body.
Patron saint of the blind.
