Patron saint of racial justice and philanthropy.
She was shocked and moved by the poor living conditions of Native Americans from reading about and visiting Southwestern U.S.
Asked Pope Leo XIII for more missionaries to help out Native Americans prompting him to suggest that she become a missionary herself.
As an activist, she opened dozens of schools for Native American & African American children.
Said, “Let us open wide our hearts. It is joy which invites us.”
