Saint John the Baptist

Born: about 5 BC in Judaea
Died: About 33 AD

Jewish prophet and priest, he prepared people for and spoke of the coming of Jesus.

Starting his public ministry around 30 AD, he was followed by large crowds around Judea and the Jordan River where he spoke of the coming of God’s final judgment.

Baptized many people including Jesus, at which point the heavens opened and God spoke:
“This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased.” (Matthew 17:5)
