Born into nobility, was possibly a princess, excelled in her education, becoming a gifted student.
Had a powerful vision as a teen of the virgin Mary and Jesus which influenced her becoming Christian.
Alexandria’s emperor Maxentius wanted her to renounce her faith, having her debate 50 pagan orators (some of whom she converted to Christianity).  But since she won and would not give in, Maxentius had her tortured and imprisoned. 
Refusing his proposal to marry him, stating her unceasing commitment to God, she died a martyr.
