Saint Boniface
Author: Cornelis Bloemaert – Portrait
Born: 675 in England
Died: 754
Seen as the greatest missionary since St. Paul, he converted countless pagans to Christianity throughout Germany.
Convinced non-believers of God’s existence by taking an ax to a tree, which split in four parts in the shape of a Cross.
Strengthened the influence of the Church in central Europe.  Christian legend says he founded the tradition of a Christmas tree’s connection to the birth of Christ.
Said: “The Church is like a great ship…Our duty is not to abandon ship, but to keep her on her course.”
