Believed in compassion & personal holiness, his personal motto was: “Renew all things in Christ”
He opposed modernizing the church, favoring staying with traditional Christian values.
Decreed lowering age of First Communion from 12 to 7 years old.
Performed some miracles including having a paralyzed child get up from his grasp and run off.
He lived humbly, worked on behalf of and gave refuge to the poor.
Said: “I was born poor, I have lived poor, and I wish to die poor.”
