One of rock’s greatest drummers, he was known as “The Professor” in the band Rush for his complex arrangements using exotic percussion instruments.

His prowess stood out in songs such as “Tom Sawyer,” “YYZ” and “La Villa Strangiato.”

Inspired by Ayn Rand, he was also the band’s lyricist and became a prolific author of books ranging from fantasy to philosophy to faith.

Inducted into Modern Drummer’s Hall of Fame in 1983.
