Using “wah-wah” effects and distortion sounds, he forever changed the sound of rock & roll.

His biggest hits included “Hey Joe,” “Purple Haze,” “The Wind Cries Mary” and “All Along The Watchtower.”

Inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 and the R&B Hall of Fame in 2016.
