Author: Warner Bros. Records, Source Billboard Magazine, Trade Ad (1970), public domain.

Formed 1968 in England

Dubbed “Greatest Metal Band” and “the Beatles of heavy metal,” they were critically panned but a huge commercial success.

Founders Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward based their dark, ominous sound and the band’s name on a 1963 horror film.

Their “Iron Man,” “Paranoid” and “War Pigs” are signature tunes in heavy metal and hard rock.

Continue to be a major cultural influence across music, tv, film and literature.
