With gardenia flowers in her hair, “Lady Day” was one of the best jazz singers of all time.  

Even though she never learned how to read music, her song about a lynching, Strange Fruit, was called the “Song of the Century” by Time.

Inducted into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2000 by Diana Ross.
