Nicknamed “The Golden Boy,” he began boxing at 6 years old.

Has won 10 world titles in 6 different weight classes and was ranked as 38th best boxer in history.

Won a gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, after a promise he had made to his mother.

Started a foundation in East Los Angeles to help underprivileged youth lead positive, productive lives by focusing on their education, self-esteem and strong work ethic.

To stay grounded and motivated, he carries a $1 food stamp in his wallet as a reminder of his poor upbringing.

Also had a music career with a self-titled album.
