A member of the US House of Representatives, his policies pushed to improve the immigration process as well as bolster immigrants’ rights.  

A tireless advocate, he participated in civil-disobedience protests outside the White House.

First elected official to sponsor a bill to help undocumented children that had been brought to the US a way to achieve citizenship through the DREAM Act.

As a House Rep., he worked to protect American families against mortgage companies trying to exploit them.
