One of the most important activists in American history, she co-founded the Community Service Organization (CSO), which fought to improve the economic futures for migrant Farm workers.

Co-founded the National Farmworkers Association and organized California’s Delano grape strike in 1965 by negotiating workers’ contracts for better wages.

Awarded Puffin/Nation Prize for Creative Citizenship, starting her non-profit Foundation to identify, develop and engage more successful leaders.

Recognized for promoting the Spanish phrase “Sí, se puede,” meaning “Yes, we can” in English.

Inducted as the 1st Latina to the National Women’s Hall of Fame.
