One of the most influential cinematic directors of all time, his films were mostly adaptations of books or short stories and was known for using innovative techniques in film editing and photography.

A perfectionist whose works were often dark and edgy, as seen in several of his acclaimed hits, A Clockwork Orange, The Shining and Eyes Wide Shut.

2001: A Space Odyssey was his science fiction masterpiece and earned him 13 Academy Award nominations.

His high IQ allowed him to become a master chess player, and BAFTA renamed the Britannia Award in his honor.
