1st female Jewish Supreme Court justice, nominated and appointed by President Bill Clinton in 1993.

Popular for her strong dissenting opinions on topics she was most passionate about, including civil rights and womens’ interests.

Upset she did not have a bat mitzvah because of Orthodox restrictions on women reading from the Torah.

Was a law professor at Rutgers Law School, where she was a fierce advocate for gender equality.  

Tried 6 and won 5 cases before the Supreme Court, relentlessly fighting against sexism and gender discrimination.
