Prominent novelist, journalist and filmmaker who had 11 best-selling books, most notably The Executioner’s Song, for which he won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction.

Also won the Pulitzer Prize for non-fiction for Armies of the Night.

One of the founders of the popular NYC arts and politics alternative publication The Village Voice, which ran for over 60 years!

His service with the 112th Cavalry in the Philippines in WWII became the foundation for his work The Naked and the Dead.
