Born Alisa Zinovyevna Rosenbau, she was a writer and philosopher who developed her own theory known as Objectivism.

Best known for her 1957 award-winning novel promoting intense capitalism, Atlas Shrugged, blaming the struggles of American businesses on too many government laws and regulations.

Her personal philosophy played out in her books, which favored the idea that we should be self-interested and that being altruistic is destructive.
