United States Supreme Court Justice & 1st African American to serve on the nation’s high court.
Before becoming a judge, he was a lawyer best known for good success arguing before the Supreme Court & for his landmark victory in Brown v. Board of Education, a 1954 decision ruling that determined segregated public schools were in fact unconstitutional.
After graduating law school, he began a long affiliation with the NAACP.
Remembered for his decisions in civil rights & Constitutional protections.
Said: “To protest against injustice is the foundation of all our American democracy.”
