In 1558, succeeded half-sister, became Queen of England & Ireland for 45 years, from 1558 until her death.

Was last monarch of Tudor dynasty. Became Supreme Governor of the English Protestant church.

Her rule is known as Elizabethan era, famous for thriving drama & art, with playwrights like Shakespeare.

Famous for defeat of Spanish Armada, & brought great stability to kingdom of England & helped country gain strong sense of national identity.

Enacted the Elizabethan Poor Law in an effort to help fight poverty.
