Flew a plane before he could drive car!
On July 20, 1969, six hundred million people watched him on TV as he & Buzz Aldrin landed on the Moon’s surface in the Lunar Module, then got out and walked on the moon!
Also a war hero who flew 78 missions for the US Navy during Korean War receiving the Air Medal for 20 combat missions, a Gold Star for the next 20 missions, and Korean Service Medal and Engagement Star.
As he stepped onto the moon, he said: “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”
