Led India to independence inspiring civil rights & freedom movements around the world.
While living in South Africa, he saw & felt racism, prejudice & injustice.
Led campaigns for reducing poverty, improving women’s rights, building up religious & ethnic harmony (even fasting to near death).
Personally felt his life’s greatest achievement was helping Indians’ attain self-rule (called “Swaraj”).
Said: “You must be the change you want to see in the world.”
