Ludwig van Beethoven

Ludwig van Beethoven
Artist: Joseph Karl Stieler - oil on canvas
Born: 1770 Germany
Died: 1827
German composer & pianist, key figure in the transition between the Classical & Romantic eras of music.
Most famous & influential composer of all time, a giant of classical music.
A total perfectionist, suffered hearing loss after falling during fit of rage.
One of his greatest piano works, ‘Moonlight Sonata’, was originally just called Piano Sonata No. 14.
Brrrr… he often dipped his head in cold water before composing!
Had very temperamental attitude, ending performances if anyone in audience was talking or unattentive.
“To play a wrong note is insignificant, to play without passion is inexcusable”
