Was a French educator but as teen he invented a revolutionary system for teaching the blind to read & write, known worldwide today as braille.
Blind at 5, he mastered his disability while still a young boy.
While a student at Royal Institute for Blind Youth, was determined to close communications gap blind people felt.
Studied a system introduced by Charles Barbier, a former soldier who invented system of silently sharing information he called “night writing”.
His accomplishments as a young boy makes him hold a special place as a hero for children.
Said: “Access to communication in the widest sense is access to knowledge’’.
