Born: 1412 France
Died at stake: 1431
French Heroine during 100 Years’ War. Had spiritual visions instructing her to fight English domination & support Charles VII, who sent her on mission to help forces in Orléans.
Rose to notoriety with quick victories & her success boosted French morale who believed her leadership was divinely inspired.
Famously carried banner into battle preferring it over a sword. She was ambushed, captured & put on trial for heresy (a capital crime) & “cross-dressing” because she dressed like a man for battle & when in prison to protect herself; was put to death.
Said “I am not afraid… I was born to do this.”
