Died: 370 BC
Greek physician known as the ‘Father of Medicine’, he was first to separate medicine from superstitions.
Believed that the body must be treated as a whole, not just a series of parts.
Credited with healing many people, including Macedonia’s king, whom he treated for tuberculosis.
First to express belief that our ideas & feelings come from brain, not heart, a revolutionary concept for his time.
Was first documented chest surgeon & his findings are still valid today.
“His oath” cannot be directly credited to him but is based on his principles & still guides the ethical conduct of physicians today.
