Scottish scientist, engineer & inventor.
An excellent piano player at young age.
Widely credited with the invention of the first real working telephone, patent #174,465, was issued March 7, 1876, by the U.S. Patent Office covering “the method of, and apparatus for, transmitting vocal or other sounds telegraphically … “
His mother & wife were both deaf, a major influence on his career.
Also invented the Metal Detector – which was used to find a bullet inside of President James Garfield – plus the Audiometer, a device used to detect hearing problems.
