Left Pluto out of his renovated Planetarium in 2000, calling it a dwarf planet and the International Astronomical Union agreed.
Has written books to educate everyday people on astronomy, including Death by Black Hole and Other Cosmic Quandaries.
Started making TV appearances to discuss astronomy, explaining complex ideas with a sense of humor and great clarity.
Said: “Curious that we spend more time congratulating people who have succeeded than encouraging people who have not.”
