Interested in religion and God at young age, he got degree at Chicago Theological Seminary and later became a reverend.
Experienced segregation from an early age being part of civil rights demonstrations, marching with Martin Luther King Jr. in Alabama & he was present during MLK’s assassination.
Founded National Rainbow Coalition pushing for the advancement of African Americans, women and LGBT community.
Was only 2nd African American ever to run for President, a historic campaign.
Awarded Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Said: “Never look down on anybody unless you’re helping him up.”
