• Scientist and inventor who introduced new agricultural methods to improve the lives of poor farmers.

• Born into slavery, kidnapped and sold, he educated himself and ultimately graduated from college.

• Developed over 300 new products to help diversify crops, improve diet and conserve land.

• Honored with the 1st national memorial to an African American.
