World class conductor, composer, educator, author and pianist, he was one of the most important figures in music in the 20th century.

Gifted at a young age, he was the youngest person to ever conduct the New York Philharmonic.

West Side Story is regarded as his highest compositional achievement and notable work.

He also conducted the Israel Philharmonic – before Israel was even founded, when it was known as the Palestine Symphony Orchestra – for 25 seasons!

Highly accomplished, he won 16 Grammys, 7 Emmys, 2 Tonys and is also in the American Theatre Hall of Fame.
