In 1938, his family immigrated to the US in an attempt to escape Nazi persecution.

Has undergraduate degree and doctorate from Harvard University.

President Nixon appointed him to be assistant for national security affairs, then in 1969 was promoted to head of the National Security Council.

Won the 1973 Nobel Peace Prize.
