Saint Francis of Assisi

Born: 1181 in Italy

Died: 1226

Son of a wealthy businessman, he originally lived lavishly and wanted personal glory more than salvation. 

Gave up his wealth, dedicated himself solely to God, working to bring the Church away from corruption and scandal and back toward Christ.

Founded the Franciscan order, even though he wasn’t a priest.

He treated all people (animals too) as brothers, he was the Patron saint of animals and the environment.

Said: “Where there is charity and wisdom, there is neither fear nor ignorance.”
